20:01
|
And God said all these words:
And
God spake all these words, saying,
|
20:02
|
I am the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt,
out of the prison-house.
I
am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of
the house of bondage.
|
20:03
|
You are to have no other gods but me.
Thou
shalt have no other gods before me.
|
20:04
|
You are not to make an image or picture of anything in heaven
or on the earth or in the waters under the earth:
Thou
shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that
is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth:
|
20:05
|
You may not go down on your faces before them or give them
worship: for I, the Lord your God, am a God who will not give his honour to
another; and I will send punishment on the children for the wrongdoing of their
fathers, to the third and fourth generation of my haters;
Thou
shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am
a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto
the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
|
20:06
|
And I will have mercy through a thousand generations on those
who have love for me and keep my laws.
And
shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
|
20:07
|
You are not to make use of the name of the Lord your God for an
evil purpose; whoever takes the Lord's name on his lips for an evil purpose
will be judged a sinner by the Lord.
Thou
shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not
hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
|
20:08
|
Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day.
Remember
the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
|
20:09
|
On six days do all your work:
Six
days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
|
20:10
|
But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that
day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant
or your woman-servant,
your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you:
But
the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do
any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy
maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
|
20:11
|
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea,
and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this
reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy.
For
in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is,
and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and
hallowed it.
|
20:12
|
Give honour to your father and to your mother, so that your
life may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
Honour
thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the
LORD thy God giveth thee.
|
20:13
|
Do not put anyone to death without cause.
Thou
shalt not kill.
|
20:14
|
Do not be false to the married relation.
Thou
shalt not commit adultery.
|
20:15
|
Do not take the property of another.
Thou
shalt not steal.
|
20:16
|
Do not give false witness against your neighbour.
Thou
shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
|
20:17
|
Let not your desire be turned to your neighbour's house, or his
wife or his man-servant or his woman-servant or his ox or his ass or anything
which is his.
Thou
shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's
wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor
any thing that is thy neighbour's.
